Online Continuing Education Programs Can Boost Your Career

Education ProgramIf you are interested in a better career or in going further in your current field, continuing education may be for you. Continuing education programs offer students a chance to learn industry-specific or job-specific skills.

Unlike traditional academic programs, these programs are not usually pushing students towards a degree. Instead, students may earn credits or a certificate at the end of their program, not to mention a lot of job-boosting skills and information. If you are lucky enough to live near a great college or university, you may be able to qualify for their programs. If you do not, you can still get all the benefits of this type of education by pursuing online continuing education programs.

Online continuing education programs can actually be less expensive, more convenient, and higher quality than their in-classroom counterparts. Students who pursue their education through the Internet often do not have to pay extra tuition costs for using school buildings and they do not have to pay for commutes or parking at their school. All you need to pursue your education is a computer and Internet connection, something that most homes have anyway.

Pursuing higher education online can allow you to study and complete assignments on your own time. There is no need for you to rearrange your own schedule in order to rush to class. This is great news for anyone who is pursuing a career or juggling a family life with education. Online studying can be done any time you have some time to spare. Finally, by pursuing online continuing education programs, you can choose the best, no matter where you live. If you want to pursue programs at your local university or college, you may be stuck with whatever programs they offer. Once you go online, though, you can find programs and education options for every field. You can pick and choose from literally thousands of programs to find the exact right match for you.

If you are looking for work or want a promotion, pursuing an online continuing education program is a great option. It shows your employers or potential employers that you are serious about learning in your field and serious about your career. In fact, education makes employees stronger, so much so that many employers are willing to help their workers pay for education programs. Online continuing education programs are also a great way to learn skills that can help you in your current job. If you love your job, you can learn how to do it more effectively or how to take on new responsibilities.

Of course, your desire to pursue more skills makes you an excellent candidate for a raise or new job. Once your employer sees that you are learning new skills, you become a more valuable worker. You may be able to earn more for your time or you may be offered exciting new employment opportunities.

If you are hoping to switch careers or are looking for a job, an online continuing education program can help you get the job you want. Your schooling can get you the skills you need to land a job in a new field. And don’t overlook your teachers and professors online. Many of them are already in the field and may be willing to offer you advice or give you a recommendation letter to use in your job hunt. It certainly does not hurt to ask.

An education looks great on your resume, especially if you are currently looking for work. Pursuing a program prevents that embarrassing gap in your resume and instead gives you something that can attract potential employers.

What Is A 21st Century Education

Education 21st CenturyIntroduction

The concept of a 21st century education might be an abstract and imaginative idea even today. Even when the wonders of technology and high finance continues to be an untapped resource where one can take advantage, the perception of most people still rely on the thinking process of the last century. As they say, people who are enjoying the trend are the ones who end up being ordinary. Thus the concept of 21st century education tries to change the olden perspective.

Education in the 21st Century

One can ask why wealth-building is a 21st century perspective. In other words, why is there a date to it?

The lingo denotes a lot of things. First, the 21st century represents a trend and a future. This kind of education persists at a time where wealth creation through the latest technology exploits, and finance with ever increasing capital mobility is possible. Thus, this idea will continue to be relevant and critical for people willing to find the best economic standing today. Second, 21st century education denotes a time removed from previous centuries. Therefore, there is a historical hinge to the meaning of 21st century education. The 19th century is a drive toward modernity where one can be successful by a good education and hard work. The 20th century talks about a highly urban lifestyle and the increasing relevance of college education and white collar jobs. The 21st century talks about a different perspective in which anyone who sees the trend can identify with.

Finally, the aim of 21st century education is to ask people why we think the same way for two centuries. It hopes to promote a new way of looking at a healthy financial lifestyle using today’s practices.

Challenging How We Learn

The key to 21st century education is to leave classic education behind or to modify it to be at par with the ever changing times. Unfortunately, the shift of university education to develop people with the skills of today’s demanding job cycles is not catching up. The new education does not only question how we learn but also why we need to study what we study. Does the current educational system adaptive enough to make a student successful ten to twenty years down the line? Are we teaching students about financial responsibility?

Changing Perspective

Knowing that there is a system to teach us how to be successful today is sadly not enough. Since there are no institutions that can put up a 21st century curriculum, we might be hard pressed to equip ourselves with this kind of education. However, if a few very successful people can apply it now, why can’t we?

21st century education talks about catching up with a changed perspective. It all starts with opening our minds and being flexible with all the ideas a 21st century education feeds. There are some ideas that we might not agree on, but then we can contribute to the trend all the same. Learning the ropes of today’s world starts with finding way to think creatively in a very creative world, and getting your ideas out in a world that breathes on global fad.

Wealth creation is a 21st century perspective. It teaches us that wealth creation is not exclusive for the rich. This time, the masses can be empowered to create a healthy financial lifestyle. By applying the principles of 21st century education, we can exploit the market lows, save us from debt, and ensure comfortable lifestyle years after retirement.

A Wise Investment

Acquiring a 21st century education is definitely not a get-rich quick scheme. Instead, it is an investment that should compound over time and give very rewarding returns. A changing mindset is the first step in being ahead of today’s financial curve along with taking the ideas as a serious educational form. Only with this realisation can we appreciate the importance of 21st century education.

CORRELATION STUDIES IN EDUCATION

ABSTRACT This paper reviewed importance of correlation studies in educational research. The paper concluded that correlation is used to find relationship between variables, determined degree of association etc. and recommendation was made at the end of the paper. INTRODUCTION Correlational study is very important in research. This is obvious in the ways it has been used in researches today in sciences, education, engineering etc. correlational study is used to find relationships between variables, degree of relationships, association among parameters, existing influences between variables, determine the degree of freedom, variability in performance, strength of variations in strength of relationships. The correlation is one of the most common and most useful statistics. A correlation is a single number that describes the degree of relationship between two variables. IMPORTANCE OF CORRELATION Darko and Ansa-Asare (2009) cited the use of correlation to establish relationships and interactions between parameters. Correlation does not only used to find out relationship that exists between variables, it can also be used to determine the degree of relationships and variability between students’ performance in examination as opined by Oluwatayo (2007). Abe (2007) confirmed that correlation can be used to determine the strength of relationship between subjects and variations in strength of relationships of scores in subjects. Correlation is a good instrument to be used to analyse relationship between performances of students as observed by Ige (2007). Boampong, Acquah and Achiamaa (2009) used correlation to assess linear association among studied quantitative parameters. Boampong, Acqua, Sam-Awortwi and Ofori (2010) stated that correlation could be used to test for association among measured parameters. Correlation allows the researcher to investigate naturally occurring variables that maybe unethical or impractical to test experimentally. For example, it would be unethical to conduct an experiment on whether smoking causes lung cancer. Mcleod (2008) opined that correlation identifies variables and looks for a relationship between them. Correlation allows the researcher to clearly and easily see if there is a relationship between variables. This can then be displayed in a graphical form. The correlation is one of the most common and most useful statistics. He stressed further that correlation is a single number that describes the degree of relationship between two variables. Lanthier (2011) looked at correlation as a way to measure how associated or related two variables are. She explains further that in a correlational study, the researcher is measuring conditions that already exist and finding out in what way pairs of variables are related. Lanthier (2011) opined that the researcher looks at things that already exist and determines if and in what way those things are related to each other and that, purpose of doing correlations is to allow us to make a prediction about one variable based on what we know about another variable. She believed when we know there is a correlation between two variables, we can make a prediction. We can make predictions about things when we know about correlations. If two variables are correlated, we can predict one based on the other. Mcleod (2008) observed that an important area where correlation is widely used is in the study of intelligence where research has been carried out to test the strength of the association between the I.Q. levels of identical and non-identical twins. Correlation research is a form of analysis in which you correlate one variable with another to determine if there is a relationship between them. It is used as a first step prior to experimentation, when experiments cannot be conducted (for ethical or practical reasons). In correlation research you do not manipulate a variable, you gather information through: Observation, Surveys or Questionnaires, and Information Correlation is concerned with describing the degree of relationship between variables. Researchers can use one variable to make predictions about another variable, that correlation can be used to find interrelation between variables. Minium, King & Bear (1993) posited that correlation can be used mainly to determine the degree of association between variables, and also to make prediction about an event. To establish reliability of a test, for example, we would want to know the extent of initial performance on the same test at a subsequent time. Minium et al (1993) opined that correlation is used in determining the degree of association between two variables and predicting a person’s standing in associated variable. John and Arthur (1991) viewed that when two variables are examined for their correlation; it is usually for the purpose of predicting one of them. Most correlation studies are initiated based on the desire to examine and explain the changing value of this variable. Horst (1963) said correlation measures the co variation in the magnitude of two things. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION Correlation is very important in educational research as it could be used to find out relationship between variables, determine degree of association, for prediction about one variable and strength of a relationship. Having reviewed role of correlation in educational research it is therefore suggested that institutions of learning should design a course especially for correlation study. This will help students to apply correlation statistics correctly in research.

How to solve problems in the mathematics education using calculators

Mathematics is a very important element in the development of the value and standard of the life of the individual and society. Mathematics enters in everything from science, technology and engineering to arts and social sciences to economics and decision making. It is very important that society constantly produces new generations of well trained mathematicians. This means that the school should increase the student’s interest and develop his skills in the subject. To achieve this goal the school should see the reasons why students fear mathematics and why many students do very poorly in the subject. The fist reason for the difficulty of the subject for students is that mathematics is abstract. It is not tangible they can not hold it. To make them understand a pure concept at this early stage is very difficult. They need to relate it to real life problems that they face in their daily lives. This way they will be stimulated by its importance for them and will see that it is useful and fun. Moreover, the use laboratory experiments using calculators would make concepts more understandable. There are many new innovative software calculators built just for this purpose. The conventional system of teaching mathematics contributes significantly to the poor performance of students. This is because many teachers teach students how to implement algorithms without teaching them the idea behind the algorithms and there is no stress on the understanding of the concepts. This causes the interest level in the subject to decline and soon students develop a disassociation with the subject. To solve this problem the schools can create a mathematics society and a forum where students can communicate with each other discussing material and asking each other questions. This kind of social behavior may increase the student’s interest in the subject.

Students pass early mathematics classes and they are not really fit in the subject. This is because the exams and grading did not reflect the student’s true ability. This causes the students to have very big problems in senior mathematics classes which are dependent on the early classes. For example if we look at the early pupil stage we can imagine a pupil who does not understand the concept of divide and multiply. That is to say when should he divide and when should he multiply. Now can this pupil at a later stage know to solve a word problem? The answer is surely no. He will not know what we are talking about. We can also imagine a student who does not understand the concept of the algebraic equations. This student could not be asked to plot a graph because simply he will not have an idea about what we are speaking about. The teachers can use calculators to teach pupils the concepts of multiply and divide. They can let them experiment on their own with many numbers using the calculators. From the observations the pupils will understand the concepts of multiply and divide. Moreover, teachers could use calculators to teach students the concepts of functions and graphing. It is easy and fun using calculators.

Finally, those who are teaching mathematics may have sufficient knowledge in the subject. They usually have a mathematics degree but this is not enough. To be a teacher you certainly got to be strong in the subject but this is only one major factor in being a successful teacher. The teacher should know about education and student psychology. he should also have a strong personality and be a good leader.
